Narrative Short Film

Video Production

The narrative short film Deathyard, created in partnership with The Haunted Farm, was produced in 2019 over the course of two production days. With Taylor Hellhake serving as Director of Photography, Gaffer, and Editor, and Daniel Ballard as Director and Producer, the film focuses on atmosphere, which was especially important since the film doesn’t include any dialogue. The team was joined by actors Lauren Rivas and Tyler Black, who served as the film’s central characters. The eerie world of Deathyard enlists a cast of characters who add to the ambiance of the story, many of whom are featured at The Haunted Farm, a haunted attraction in Western North Carolina.

Deathyard received nominations at the New York City Horror Film Festival, Wreak Havoc Horror Film Festival, and Horrorhaus Film Festival. The film won Best Horror Short at Atlanta ShortsFest and Stranger Days Independent Film Festival. It also took home the Best Cinematography Award at the Horrorhound Film Festival and Best Slasher Short at Horror Hotel. The film also won Best Horror Film award at Oregon Scream Week.

Background

The Haunted Farm, located in Western North Carolina, has earned a reputation as the best haunted attraction in the state, drawing in thousands of guests each Halloween season. Voted as a top destination for thrill-seekers, The Haunted Farm creates an immersive and terrifying experience for visitors, thanks to a dedicated team of professionals. The haunt boasts a skilled makeup and costume team, a construction crew that spends nearly eight months of the year building and expanding the chilling facilities, and a marketing team that has successfully broadened its reach to a national audience. As a result, The Haunted Farm has become one of the premier haunted attractions on the East Coast, attracting guests from near and far who are eager to experience the thrills it offers.

In 2016, Depthink Productions was brought on board to collaborate with The Haunted Farm’s marketing team, providing a range of video content to help capture the attraction’s characters, stories, and attendee experiences. The scope of the video projects has evolved and expanded over the years, reflecting the growth and innovation of the attraction itself. Depthink has created a diverse variety of video content, including short narrative films that offer a glimpse into the world of The Haunted Farm, promotional commercials for social media ads, and documentary material to connect viewers with other attendees. All of this material was aimed at helping elevate the farm’s visibility and attract a wider audience each year.

Each year, the videos serve as a key tool in building anticipation, drawing in new visitors, and ensuring that The Haunted Farm remains a must-visit destination for horror lovers.
