Video Production
This music video for the song “Cuckoo” by Rising Appalachia was shot in Asheville, North Carolina at the Crow and Quill, a downtown bar known it’s unique speakeasy asthetic. Over the course of two production days, sisters Leah and Chloe collected a team of local friends and talented artists to be featured within the variety of scenes in the music video. The video intertwines the moody, vintage atmosphere of the venue with the energy of a live performance. The video moves between the rich warm textures of the venue and the eclectic mix of characters, capturing the a hidden world within the bar’s walls. It reflects the sisters’ creative vision and the connections they’ve fostered within their Asheville community.
Taylor Hellhake (DP, SteadiCam Operator, Gaffer, Editor) worked alongside Andrew Anderson (2nd Camera Operator), to use the unique space to capture the performance and atmosphere.
Background
Rising Appalachia is an internationally touring folk band deeply rooted in Southern soul. Founded by sisters Leah Song and Chloe Smith, who grew up in Atlanta, the group draws inspiration from their family’s musical heritage and their personal evolution as performers, songwriters, and storytellers. Rising Appalachia blends Americana with contemporary lyrics, rhythm, and poetry. The band’s sound is crafted through the vocals of sisters Leah and Chloe, accompanied by instrumentation and harmonies that reflect their Southern roots. Their music is further enriched by a diverse group of talented musicians who bring their own cultural influences, blending Appalachian, Irish, Americana, Latin, and global roots.
Depthink Productions has worked with the Asheville, NC based band Rising Appalachia over the years to capture a collection of their creative visions and translate them to the screen.
